This was an interesting emperor for Gordian III is where we find the last silver denarius to be issued in any quantity. Following his assassination, the dominant silver coin becomes the antoninianus which was valued at twice a denarius. So this effectively becomes a major debasement event so these coins represent the start of the fall of the Roman monetary system.
