The EU Commission Knew All Along About Cheating on Emissions Values of Diesel Vehicles

The German journal SPIEGEL has reported that at least since 2010, the European Commission has known about the automobile manufacturers cheating on emissions values for diesel vehicles. SPIEGEL obtained internal documents that establish that despite the claims of global warming, officials have known the whole time what was going on. “The papers show that emissions cheating had been under discussion for years both within the Commission and the EU member state governments,” SPIEGEL reported. In fact, the German government was informed of a 2012 meeting on this very issue. The scandal, however, only hit the headlines in 2015 concerning Volkswagen. Other governments have used the issue to justify fining Volkswagen. Here, the government knew all along.
