Cutting Government Waste – But (D)ifferent

The Campaign To Cut Waste established an oversight and accountability board that worked to reduce “government waste.” The program saved the US government an estimated $17.6 billion within the first six months of launching. NO—Donald Trump and DOGE were not behind these efforts, as this campaign was initiated by former President Barack Obama, who said, “No amount of waste is acceptable.”

I will give it to Barack Obama that he was a highly skilled public speaker and his rhetoric will be studied for many years to come. Even in the video above, he hints at humorous government spending that had minimal impact on reducing the deficit. But he presented his plans to the people in a manner that was easily digestible and dumbed down. Half of the nation does not understand Donald Trump or his efforts. They believe he is cruel and mean due to his aggressive delivery, but he gets the job done. At our Rome conference, Nigel Farage mentioned that Trump had a “New York demeanor,” which many cannot understand. They want to hear every message sprinkled in sugar.

I mentioned in an earlier blog post that firing past-era US Attorneys is a STANDARD PRACTICE, despite cries that it was an act of a dictator under Trump. President Bill Clinton also fired all 93 US attorneys when he came to power. “That’s a traditional prerogative of an incoming president,” Hillary Clinton said in 2007 regarding her husband’s actions.

As for slimming down the government, the Clinton Administration implemented a program of “reinventing government” to streamline federal bureaucracy and cut down on wasteful spending. The National Performance Review (later renamed the National Partnership for Reinventing Government) led to a reduction of 377,000 federal jobs from 1993 to 1999, while other sources say this figure could have been as high as 426,200.

Clinton also offered buyout programs of up to $25,000 to reduce higher management positions. He implemented attrition and “early out programs,” in which those who felt they could find gainful employment in the private sector left. Al Gore even said the goal was “to make the entire Federal Government both less expensive and more efficient, and to change the culture of our national bureaucracy away from complacency and entitlement toward initiative and empowerment.” Everyone cheered these measures which received bipartisan support.

Joe Biden may have sought to multiply the public sector, but most past administrations have attempted to wrangle runaway budgets by reducing waste. No one has taken a more aggressive approach than Donald Trump, but he has been left with no choice as his predecessor was pushing America into outright socialism. The current government structure is utterly bloated with nonsense agencies and roles that add nothing to GDP—no public agency is adding to the GDP. DOGE and Trump began with the outright ridiculous DEI programs and hires and are now on to the rest.

People are outraged at Trump and DOGE for fast-tracking the process. The government has never been larger, and the national debt has never been higher. It is simply (D)ifferent when past administrations tried to take the very same actions with a softer approach.
