US/AMERICAS:

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for December 2023 rose by 0.3% from November, higher than the expected 0.2%, leading to an annual increase of 3.4%, which surpasses the anticipated 3.2%. This rise was driven in part by increasing shelter costs, which accounted for more than half of the core CPI increase. Excluding volatile food and energy prices, the core CPI also rose by 0.3% for the month and 3.9% from a year ago, compared with respective estimates of 0.3% and 3.8%. The increase in shelter costs was a significant factor, with the category rising by 0.5% for the month and accounting for more than half of the core CPI increase. The report also mentioned that wages adjusted for inflation posted a 0.2% gain on the month and a modest 0.8% increase from a year ago.
